Bluesky Interactive are a web design and digital marketing agency that specialises in the automotive sector. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as Product Owner.
At Bluesky, everything we do is about making our people and clients more successful. We are passionate about building trusted-partnerships with our people and our clients. Together, we deliver class-leading marketing solutions and evidenced-based results.
With elements of technical project management, marketing and more, this is an exciting and unusual position that doesn’t necessarily require experience in a job of a similar title. If you have the skills and attitude required to make this position your own, and are looking for a role where you get to innovate, drive development and create products and solutions within our growing products team, then we want to hear from you.
Our offices are open to home working, meaning that this role would be ideally placed for people located in the Midlands or South Yorkshire – able to reach either our Sheffield or Warwick offices when required for whiteboarding sessions and key product meetings.
The Top 3 things you need to be a successful Product Owner within our digital agency...
Relentless organisation is the name of the game as a Product Owner. You will need to collect requirements from stakeholders and turn these into detailed illustrations, objectives and user stories to aid the design and development of our bespoke software products. You will then have to make informed decisions on how the product is developed based on communication between all stakeholders (prioritisation of work, features, risk etc).
You will also be required to carry out intricate testing plans with vigour and attention to detail (and ideally a talent for breaking things!). As the development cycle draws to a close, you will also be responsible for the creation of clear documentation for software that has been produced – and have total ownership over the pipeline and features backlog to ensure we deliver continual improvements.
To assist in this role you will ideally have experience:
Working with various stakeholders
Communicating complicated issues and concepts
Using tools such as Trello, Google Sheets, Microsoft DevOps and more
In order to turn requirements into a complete product outline, you will need to be confident taking the initiative, and employing creative thinking where needed. Whilst you will have access to design and marketing resources, as part of your ownership of your products we will expect you to come up with solutions, opportunities and ensure that the company is heading in the right direction with the developments it progresses.
As part of this, we will expect you to understand and research relevant other products and market trends, and document your product specification with wireframing and mindmapping tools, such as Balsmiq.
A reasonably logical mind and level of technical knowledge would be optimal to enable you to find your feet in the role. Whilst we are not expecting any coding knowledge (and, indeed, the agile process means you should be briefing user stories without the full details of How), a familiarity with software, websites, products and digital solutions will come in handy.
If you’ve got the Top 3 down, here are the more general bits and pieces we consider vital for someone in a Product Owner role:
Meticulous and fastidious
Familiar with some form of project or product management software (i.e. DevOps)
Able to work independently to meet deadlines
Familiar with product testing and troubleshooting
Able to document work for a wide audience, ranging from technical peers to non-technical staff
Able to prioritise and assess requirements to ensure products go in the right direction and focus on the right areas
Creative and able to take the initiative with driving us toward the best solution both functionally and commercially
If you think you are a good fit for the role, we welcome your application. It’s important to us that you include a Covering Letter and CV which outlines why you are applying. Make sure you detail why you feel you will be a good fit for the role and what transferable skills/experience you have, which will make our business and our clients ever more successful.
