New kids on the blog...

Bluesky Interactive's Project / Account Manager is going on maternity leave. I will be leaving Bluesky (for the time being!) at the end of this month to embark on a new adventure as a first time Mum. We have a new recruit, Steven Watters, who has joined us as Account Manager. Steven is 26 years old, originally from South Africa, and has previous experience working in both BMW and Mercedes Benz dealerships. Steven can be contacted at the office, on my mobile number or via email steven.watters@blueskyinteractive.co.uk. Please direct all future communication to Steven.

Steven WattersIt has been a pleasure working with you and I'm looking forward to working with you again when I return to work in 12 month's time. Bluesky is continuing to grow with more clients coming on board so there is a great need to expand the Account Management team. Steven is a full time recruit and will continue to work with me when I return next year.

I am due to give birth in 6 weeks time so look out for my next blog update which will be to announce my Baby News (and of course some cute little pics).

How to set up Google Maps for your business

You may have noticed that Google maps are now appearing regularly in the search results for location based searches such as "Vauxhall Dealer Leicester".

You might also be surprised to learn that adding your business to these maps and appearing high up in Google is free and takes very little effort. Just follow the simple steps here.

Alternatively, give us a call on 08451 255 855 to find out more about the benefits of adding your business to Google Business Listings, or contact us today if you'd like some hands-on help.

The trip of a lifetime

As Bluesky Interactive's Creative Director, I'm used to dealing with some challenging situations, but I think I've found something far more intense than anything the world of automotive internet marketing can throw at me!

Between 24th May and 2nd June, my girlfriend and I are trekking Peru's Inca Trail on behalf of Ronald McDonald House Charities. It's 42 miles in 5 days, and there will be extremes of temperature, very basic camping, high altitude and rough terrain to contend with. It promises to be tough.

Machu PicchuWe will be funding the trip ourselves so all the money raised through sponsorship of the trip will go towards achieving RMHC's ambitious Five Year Strategy of doubling the amount of rooms they provide for families with children in hospitals around the UK.

We want to raise at least £4,000 to help a great charity and hope that you can help us in some way. To sponsor us visit: www.justgiving.com/incatrail08

More about RMHC:

RMHC was established in the UK in 1989 as an independent, registered charity supporting families with children in hospital. RMHC provides free 'home away from home' accommodation for the families of children requiring in-patient care in hospitals and hospices across the UK. When a child is admitted to hospital the family can find the time pressures and cost of travelling to and from the hospital very stressful. RMHC helps to support families through this difficult time by providing free accommodation in or near the hospital where families can be together and benefit from the support of other families facing similar situations. By giving families the opportunity to stay together in a home-like environment they have one less thing to worry about. For more details about RMHC visit: www.rmhc.org.uk
RMHC's registered Charity No. is 802047

Google Adwords Geographical Targeting

Google's Adwords geographical targeting has in the past been unreliable at best. Previously Google used the IP address of the computer carrying out the search query to determine the location of the search. This was an unreliable method for a number of reasons with the main reason being that often a computer's ISP (Internet Service Provider) was nowhere near the original computer which submitted the query to Google.

Fortunately there is now a partial solution to the problem as well as using the IP addresses Google is now using relevant location based words to determine the area of the search. For example if someone types in "Saab in Devon" Google will use the key word "Devon" to determine the area of the search.

It might not seem to be a revolutionary change, after all at Bluesky we have been using location based search terms to trigger ads for some time. It does however mean that when you want your next AdWords campaign setting up you can say things like "I want everything within a 60 mile radius of Coventry" and be confident that all the location based keywords for that area will be covered.
